AEMET issues yellow risk warning for the potential for heavy rain and storms on Friday night
The formation of a DANA over the weekend is likely to continue the wet conditions well into next week.
The state meteorological agency AEMET has issued a YELLOW risk warning for the potential for heavy rain and thunderstorms, possibly accompanied by hail, across the Marina Alta region this Friday night.
The warning is valid from midnight tonight Friday 25th October 2024 until 9.00am tomorrow morning Saturday 26th October and advises of a 40%-70% probability of heavy rain falling with an hourly accumulation rain of 20mm, accompanied by thunderstorms with the possibility of hail. Consequently, although the warning doesn’t mean that the situation will definitely occur, all the necessary precautions should be taken.
In addition, the Climatology Laboratory at the University of Alicante confirms that forecast models show that a DANA situation is likely to form over the Iberian peninsula over the weekend which could bring some adverse conditions to the Mediterranean coastal areas next week as the centre of the DANA is likely to move towards to Gulf of Cádiz. Although the heaviest rainfall is expected to fall between the Comunidad Valenciana and Cataluña, it is likely that there will be heavy rain showers in our regions as well.
The current AEMET forecast for the next seven days suggests rainfall will affect our area all week, and especially on Monday night and into Tuesday.
