Valencia joins the declaration of support for responsible tourism in Spain
The regional government, through Turisme Comunitat Valenciana, has signed this declaration together with the central government, the rest of the autonomous communities and social agents.
The Generalitat Valenciana, through Turisme Comunitat Valenciana, has signed a declaration of support for tourism together with Central Government and other autonomous communities, which establishes a priority to work towards responsible tourism and making advances in triple sustainability: economic, social and environmental as well as prioritizing the well-being of residents.
This is “a defense of the sector above any political positioning,” stressed the regional secretary of Tourism, José Manuel Camarero, who signed this commitment in the plenary session of the Spanish Tourism Council held in Madrid.
In this context, conceived as a forum for dialogue, participation and collaboration between the public and private sectors, he wanted to underline the message of unity in a speech of support for the sector by all the communities as well as the common commitment of all destinations against tourismophobia.
In this regard, he explained the measures that the Comunidad Valenciana is implementing, referring to the campaign ‘Yo también Soy Turista‘ promoted by HOSBEC in collaboration with Turisme Comunitat Valenciana, which advocates coexistence between tourists and residents, betting on empathy and making visible that the position of both converges in the same direction.
On the other hand, the regional tourism secretary has taken advantage of this national meeting to demand, like other destinations, the repeal of the Royal Decree that regulates the new register of travellers and that is expected to come into force next December.
José Manuel Camarero considers that “it means an increase in costs for companies and does not discriminate between the different types of accommodation”, so he has demanded that the Government, “after its repeal, negotiate with the sector”,” he added”.
Furthermore, during the meeting of the Council of Tourism which brought together tourism representatives from all the autonomous communities, progress was made on the so-called ‘Sustainable Tourism Strategy 2030’, which constitutes the roadmap for changing the tourism model and in which the Comunidad Valenciana is fully aligned.
Also, other issues were raised, such as the need to regulate tourist accommodation and to support training, in which measures are already being taken by Turisme Comunitat Valenciana.
