The emotional gala evening kicks off the preparations for the biggest party of the year in Xàbia.

Ainhoa Buigues Puig and Laia Sedeño Mata will be the queens of the 76th edition of Les Fogueres de Sant Joan de Xàbia. This was revealed at the end of an emotional night in which the main protagonists of next year’s edition of the biggest party of the year in Xàbia were presented to friends, family and the public in general.

Around 1,400 people packed into the Pabellón d’Esports MBA on Saturday night for the official presentation during which the young people who will make up Quintà 2025 as well as the children who will form the Juvenil Commission took to the stage in their finest dress.

The big moment arrived just after midnight. The 2024 representatives took to the stage to take on the responsibility of announcing the new faces who will be charged with representing not only the fiesta but also the town during 2025.

At the beginning of the evening, the young girls who hoped to become Infantil Queen had placed their names into a large glass vase at the front of the grand stage. It was the responsibility of the current charges to pick out the three names who would replace them. The first name drawn would be the second lady-in-waiting, Ángela Bastida De Lamo, and the second would be the first lady-in-waiting, Triana Berenguer Rodríguez. And then it was the responsibility of Claudia García to carefully pick out the Reina Infantil 2025 – Laia Sedeño Mata.

The excitement rose an extra notch when it was time for the Fogueres Queen 2025 to be announced. The voting has taken place earlier in the evening, the young people of Quintà 2025 casting their votes under strict supervision. Now was the time to find out the results and the tension could be felt in the arena.

First, Nerea Vidal stepped forward to open up the first envelope to announce the second lady-in-waiting, Arantxa Ribes Sorribes, before Nahir Sánchez was called to open the second envelope to reveal the first lady-in-waiting, María Mateo Peiró. The arena then fell into a nervous hush as Àngela Tachó, Fogueres Queen 2024, slowly stepped forward to open the final envelope and announce her replacement, Ainhoa Buigues Puig. Ainhoa would complete the ‘double’ with her election, having been Infantil Queen in 2015.

The evening also saw the election of the presidents of both the Quintà 2025, Joan Cholbi Espasa and Stephanie Dherte, and the Juvenil Commission, Marcos Tormos Mata and Celia Cardona Sancho.

The evening also raised money for charity through its admission charge and this year some 800 euros was raised for the TAPIS, the organisation in Xàbia that works on the social integration and rehabilitation of people with chronic mental illnesses.
