The saga of the municipal swimming pool continues. The complex appears to be finished from the outside, although it has remained fenced off and closed to the public for some weeks. Now, in a post on his Facebook profile, the councillor for Sports, Toni Molina, has revealed that a number of deficiencies remain to be resolved by the construction company before the pool can be opened.

His post said: “Given the great uncertainty surrounding the municipal swimming pool, which is dependent on the Department of Sports that I direct, I would like to share a reflection on the situation. From the first moment I took office, I started working together with the mayor, Rosa Cardona, to make the swimming pool a reality and for this space to join the various places intended for the enjoyment of the residents.

Since the opening is taking longer than expected, I want to explain that this is mainly due to the execution of the work. The numerous deficiencies of the facilities arise daily, further delaying the situation. Therefore, we are requiring the company, hired in September 2021, to remedy all these deficiencies as soon as possible.

We are 100% committed to carrying out the opening of a municipal swimming pool in perfect condition, a space that, after this long wait, will be a source of pride and enjoyment for all the residents of Xàbia.”

In response, the former PSOE Sports councillor, Alberto Tur, posted that “lately in Xàbia many things are going wrong, not least, the governing team” adding that “communicating that the swimming pool is not opening due to technical deficiencies, is an astonishing and disgusting political juggling act“. He also claimed that “the lack of diligence and drive in the Department of Sports during 13 months of NO management has resulted in a swimming pool received (property of the town) by the M.I. Ajuntament de Xàbia itself (April 2024) and that today the residents of Xàbia cannot enjoy“.
