Some 4,000 people enjoyed the XXII edition of the Xàbia Jazz International Festival over the past weekend, an edition that featured performances by Paquito de Rivera, Marc Copland and Nina Dinamita & la Swing Milicia.

The festival was opened by Paquito de Rivera, who came to the event with a quintet made up of Pepe Rivero (piano), Reinier Elizarde “El Negrón” (double bass), Yuvisney Aguilar (percussion) and Sebastián Laverde (vibraphone). De Rivera was very happy to be able to participate in Xàbia Jazz, and he gave his all to the large audience with some musical pieces created together with his friend Chucho Valdés, who was the headliner of the 2022 edition.

On Sunday, it was the turn of the Marc Copland Quartet featuring Belgian-American saxophonist Robin Verheyen, bassist Drew Gress and drummer Fabrice Moureau whilst on Monday night, Nina Dinamita & la Swing Milicia, headed by Claudia Ferrández together with Lucía Bisquert (trombone), Rosana Díaz (saxophone), Adriano Tortora (piano), Tico Porcar (drums), Borja Flores (double bass), closed the festival with swing rhythms that were accompanied by the Lindy Hop dance school of La Marina.

After the festival, the councillor responsible for Culture, Mavi Pérez, wanted to thank “the enormous” response” of all the residents as well as visitors who filled the Plaza de la Constitución on the three days of concerts. She also acknowledged the work carried out by the Department of Culture to “bring the festival forward” which involves a great effort of organisation and coordination, a work that has been led by Irene Buigues.

In addition, she underlined the decision to keep the Xàbia Jazz concerts free and that, to cover part of the cost of the entire festival, Xàbia Council received a grant from the Patronato de la Costa Blanca as part of the funding initiative “Subsidies to Town Councils of the Province of Alicante: Promotion of the Tourist Offer 2024” for an amount of 5,220 euros.
