Access control to Cala de la Granadella and Portitxol begins on June 1st
Access will be controlled on a daily basis between late June and mid September.
The Department of Beaches in Xàbia has confirmed vehicle access to the popular beaches of Cala de la Granadella and Barraca/Portitxol will be controlled once again this summer, becoming fully operation from Friday 21st June.
From Saturday 1st June, the mid-season begins with access control in place during the weekends (1st/2nd, 8th/9th and 15th/16th June) whilst the high season, which begins on Friday 21st June will see access controlled on a daily basis until Sunday 15th September. Access control at the weekends will return (21st/22nd & 28th/29th September, 5th/6th October) until the final day of mid-season on Sunday 13th October.
Security personnel will control access to these two coves – as well as Cova Tallada – whilst regulated parking will come into force along Calle La Barraca (Portitxol) and Calle Pic Tort (Granadella) at the weekends only from June 1st and then on a daily basis between Friday 21st June and Sunday 15th September.
Cala Ambolo remains closed to the public due to the high risk of landslides and security personnel will be deployed to deter those still wishing to access the beach.
The tender process to provide a shuttle service to Cala de la Granadella is in its final assessment stages by the town hall. No tenders were received to provide such a service to Barraca/Portitxol.
Lifeguard Service
The Cruz Roja continue to provide a beach surveillance service during the low season with three lifeguards and a coordinator present on the Playa del Arenal during the weekends in May. From Saturday 1st June, the service on the same beach will be strengthened with two additional lifeguards, two emergency paramedics and an ambulance plus a boat with skipper.
From Saturday 15th June, lifeguards will be also present on the beaches of La Grava, Granadella and Portitxol and during the weekends on the Playa de Benissero (Primer Muntanyar).
The high season coverage will begin on Monday 1st July with a lifeguard service deployed on a daily basis to all five main beaches of Xàbia: La Grava (3 lifeguards), Benissero (3), Arenal (6 + 2 emergency paramedics and ambulance), Portitxol (3) and Granadella (2 + 2 emergency paramedics and ambulance).
Cova Tallada
Access to Cova Tallada will also be controlled by security personnel at the access point in Calle Vía Láctea in Dénia during the months of August and September to avoid saturation of this protected cave on the border of Xàbia and Dénia. Control responsibilities are shared by Dénia and the Parque Natural del Montgó.
