Jesus Nazareno 2024 | The treasured image is returned to the blue-domed chapel

A special event for the people of Xàbia, May 3rd is the final day of the main programme of the fiestas in honour of the town’s treasured image of Jesús Nazareno and involves its return to the iconic blue-domed chapel of Calvario accompanied by candlelight.

The day began with the ringing of the bells and the noisy bangers of the traditional despertà before a mass at midday celebrated by the parish priests and sung by the parish choirs. And then, as the sun began to dip towards the horizon, a second mass of the day was celebrated after which the people of Xàbia lit candles to accompany the image of Jesús Nazareno back to the chapel of Calvario. The day ended with a grand firework display in the Plaza de la Constitución which brought this year’s festivities to a spectacular conclusion.
