ARTS SOCIETY PRESENTS MASTER OF SUSPENSE: ALFRED HITCHCOCK

The Arts Society Marina Alta continues with its spring season of lectures with a talk dedicated to one of the most renowned film directors of the 20th century, Alfred Hitchcock. His 1958 classic ‘Vertigo’ has been recently voted by critics as the best ever film, overtaking 1960’s Citizen Kane. John Francis will explore Hitchcock’s dark films about human obsession.

John Francis is an inspirational speaker who has delivered lecturers, workshops in the USA, Beijing, Malaysia and the UK. Initially trained as a painter, John was awarded the Max Beckmann Memorial Scholarship in painting in Brooklyn, New York and went on to be artist in residence for the state of Texas. Later in his career John produced and directed several short films and animations. He has taught film, art and pedagogy at the University of Exeter, Arts University Bournemouth, University Sains Malaysia, Southwestern College, California, Brunel University, and Kingston University London.

The lectures will take place on Wednesday 8th May at a new morning venue, Espai la Senieta in Moraira at 11.00am (doors open 10.00am) and at the Casa de Cultura in Plaça del Baix in the heart of the historic centre of Xàbia at 7.30pm (doors open 6.45pm). Both lectures are priced at 15 euros for guests but are free for members of The Arts Society and seats can be booked in advance by contacting the Arts Society by email at marinaalta@theartssociety.org or online here.
