Cable donation received by the Soler Blasco museum
The pieces are from the underwater communication cable which linked Xàbia with Ibiza
Mayoress Rosa Cardona and the councillor responsible for Culture, Mavi Pérez, received a special donation from a group of residents and the Fundación CIRNE, one which reminds us of Xàbia’s special historical link with the Balearic Islands.
The delegation presented the officials with a box inside which have been stored sections of the underwater communication cable which once connected Xàbia with the island of Ibiza. The Casa del Cable along the maritime promenade, now an exhibition centre as well as a museum highlighting its former use, is a reminder of that link.
The pieces were acquired through a crowdfunding campaign, three parts of the cable of different sizes from the Pirelli company, which have been placed in a commemorative box with a plaque affixed on the lid: “Pirelli C Milano spezia cavo Jávea-Iviza, 1888”.
