Halloween Xàbia 2023 features a spooky family parade, children’s show and disco
The Valencian tradition of the ‘bubota’ is the theme of this year’s festivities.
The Fogueres Commission has revealed details of the ‘BubotaFest’ Halloween festival that will be taking place on the evening of Saturday 28th October with a terrifying parade for all the family followed by a children’s show and disco in the Plaza de la Constitución
The 2023 edition has a new flavour. In Valencian tradition, bubotas are ghosts that stalk naughty boys and girls, sometimes kidnapping those who disobey their parents. Thought to originate in the 13th and 14th centuries, the bubotas were said to frequent cemeteries in towns in the central Valencian regions, scaring the living who came to visit, some of whom even died from the fright and were reincarnated as a bubota themselves.
