COUNCIL STARTS PREPARING ITS SCHOOLS FOR NEW ACADEMIC YEAR

Xàbia Council is working with the directors of all public schools in the municipality to carry out the necessary maintenance and preparation work for the new academic year, ensuring that the centres are conditioned to meet the required standards set out by the authorities in the face of the continuing COVID-19 health crisis.

Councillor Montse Villaverde (Education) explained that the Council has modified the cleaning contracts at all the schools, expanding and adapting them to meet current requirements. During the school year, in addition to the daily cleaning schedule, there will be staff available at each school during normal hours to deal with incidents and each centre will be supplied with 50 litres of disinfectant each week.

The municipal staff have been attending to the requirements of each management team to carry out small modifications, such as the adaption of common areas which will be converted into classrooms for this school year, the expansion of toilet blocks and the removal of partitions to expand spaces.

Villaverde added that all schools in Xàbia have been preparing to the extent of their possibilities for what is going to be a very difficult and complicated year during which the Ministry of Education has strengthened the teaching staff to attend to new classes that will be created in order to lower the number of students per classroom. Each school has planned protocols for the school year, including a dining room service in the classroom itself, staggered recreation times and the zoning of the courtyards so that the so-called ‘bubble’ or stable coexistence groups so not socialise with each other.

The councillor confirmed that a meeting will be held with all the management teams next week to finalise the details of the very complicated return to school.
