CD Jávea will be able to forget their stuttering performance in the league on Wednesday evening when they make the short journey inland to take on CE Pedreguer in the Third Round of the Copa Comunitat Mediterránea ‘La Nostra Copa’, the second edition of the regional cup competition that rewards the winners with the opportunity to compete in the Copa del Rey next season.

For head coach Juan Carlos Signes, it will also provide an opportunity to give fringe players such as Aáron, David, Umar and Álvaro the chance to rack up a few more minutes on the pitch, gain experience and improve match fitness, and give the coach more options of match-day in the league. Jávea form has not been brilliant, the 0-5 defeat at the weekend pushing the club down into the bottom three.

However, CE Pedreguer have not had the best of starts either after their relegation from the Regional Preferente at the end of last season. A 1-4 home reverse at the hands of leaders UD Benigànim last Sunday saw them drop into the bottom three of the Primera Regional and no doubt both sides will be eager to put aside their miserable league campaigns for a short while and find some form in the cup.

For Jávea, their unavailable list continues to play a major part in the selection of the best starting line-up. Paco and Fran had to come off the pitch through injury last Saturday and will be unavailable for the cup game. Both Aldo and Rubén remain on the injury list, although the latter was able to enjoy some light training on Monday evening. However, experienced midfielder Javi will be returning after serving a one-match suspension.

Head coach Juan Carlos Signes expressed the importance of making a point after last Saturday’s heavy defeat. “We need to compete well again and play as we know how and I hope [the Pedreguer game] will be ideal for us to feel the game again.” He also assured the fans that he will putting out his strongest possible starting line-up: “We are going to do everything to get through this tie” although he added that “our main objective is the league”.

The match will be played at municipal stadium in Pedreguer, kick-off is at 8.30pm and admission will be five euros.
