Almost nine months after revealing them, Xàbia Council has signed a contract for the acquisition of a special security showcase to be able to exhibit the stash of Roman coins that were discovered last summer in Portitxol and were transferred to the municipality by its discoverers.
According to a minor contract published on the municipal website, the council has contracted the specialized company Expomon Produccions i Muntatges – located in Artes near Manresa in Catalonia – for the acquisition and assembly of the special security showcase so that the coins can be put on display in the Soler Blasco municipal museum in the heart of the historic centre.
The contract details that the display case will be “a table with anti-vandal glass, anti-theft sensors and interior lighting” and will allow exhibiting the coins of the Catalar Treasure, as this discovery made by two families has been baptized.
This company will have six months to manufacture the display case and its subsequent installation in the museum.
A week ago, during a meeting of the Cultural Council, the councilor for Culture, Quico Moragues, responded to a question from the representative of the PP about the Roman coins that the issue of the showcase “is underway” and that the coins were being treated by technicians from Ivacor (Valencià Conservation Institute). He also explained that research continues in the area and that there will soon be a study on the island of Portitxol.
