Ciudadanos: “You can’t fight the problem of wet wipes on the beaches with just 300 euros”

The spokesperson for Ciudadanos in Xàbia, Enrique Escrivá, expressed his discontent in the last council plenary session held a few days ago that the Council only raised a total of 300 euros of the 290,000 euros allocated for the sewerage network in 2021, something that in his opinion prevents “doing anything against the invasion of wet wipes on the beaches of the municipality”.
Escrivá conveyed this complaint during the point in which the liquidation of the 2021 budget was approved, a point in which he referred to the total income of Xàbia Council, as well as the pending collection – about 4 million euros – but the most outstanding in his opinion was the item “sewerage fee” that reflected that level of income. Thus, according to him, this figure is “very worrying if we really want to take on the challenge of modernizing and extending the sewerage network in Xàbia.”
He added that it is a challenge that “will allow us all to face together the ecological threat posed by the tide of wet wipes that appear on the beaches and in the Gorgos riverbed” during each rainy episode.
Given this complaint, the Councilor for Finance, Ximo Segarra, could not provide an answer other than that he would have to look into it.

Escrivá also requested that the municipal budgets provide funding to improve safety, prevention, protection and increase surveillance against fires at the Ramblars green waste transfer plant.
