Xàbia Mayor José Chulvi and councillor Rita Berruti (Social Services, Health) met with representatives of the Asociación DAR, a group that works with the Ukrainian and Russian populations in the province of Alicante. One of the actions being carried out by this association is the organisation of Spanish classes for newcomers feeling the war in Ukraine.
Giving assistance and receiving those fleeing the violence was the focus of much of the meeting and the municipal representatives stressed the importance of following the procedures and official channels provided by both the Generalitat Valenciana and the Spanish government in order to channel aid, both for applicants and for those interested in providing it.
The mayor added that Xàbia was also making preparations to be able to care of all the refugees fleeing the Russian invasion of Ukraine, a crisis that provides extra work for the social services in the town on top of its usual commitments.
The mayor said that: “every person welcomed to our town will be taken care of, the council will not leave anyone without the basic resources“.
