The xabiera footballer Gema Soliveres scored her first goal in the first division of women’s football (Liga Iberdrola) on Sunday, a goal after 11 games played, six as a starter and more than 600 minutes, in the Alavés Gloriosas shirt, the women’s team of Deportivo Alavés.
This match also had a special meaning since it was the first that the team played at the Estadio de Mendizorroza, the home ground of Deportivo Alavés, in front of nearly 3,000 fans.
Alavés Gloriosas achieved a valuable 1-1 draw “that tastes like victory” against Levante UD, one of the most important rivals as a team with a long tradition at the top flight of women’s football in Spain.
At the end of the game, Soliveres herself declared that when the ball hit the back of the net “the sound of the fans was spectacular. Above all I am left with that, with that happiness of the fans who have enjoyed with us”.

After 15 games, the team is seventh in the standings with 6 wins, 4 draws and five defeats, including a savage 0-4 home reverse against league leaders Real Sociedad on Wednesday night. They remain above UD Levante and Soliveres’ former club, Valencia CF Femenino, which has only achieved 3 victories and has 9 defeats.
