VIRUS UPDATE: Infection spread continues to drop across region
More than 3 million people in the Comunidad Valenciana have completed their vaccination, some 67.5% of the population to be jabbed.

Xàbia
The total number of positive coronavirus cases detected by PCR test in Xàbia has climbed to 2,152, according to the latest update from the regional health ministry, a rise of 41 since the last update on Tuesday 13th August.
The municipality’s 14-day IA rate, a measure of the speed at which the virus moves through the population, has dropped to 635.35 cases per 100,000 inhabitants and the town remains in the ‘Extreme Risk’ alert level.
There have been no new deaths in Xàbia since late March and the number remains at 12.
Marina Alta
There have been 810 new positive cases detected by PCR test in the Marina Alta in the past 14 days and the region’s 14-day IA rate has dropped to 474.73 cases per 100,000 inhabitants and it remains in the ‘Extreme Risk’ alert level.
There has been 1 new death since the last update – Calp – and the region’s toll rises at 205.
The total number of positive cases since the pandemic began is now 13,700 since the last update on Friday 6th August, a rise of 215.

Spain’s 14-day IA rate is 483.12 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, a drop of 21.43% in the last week, but the country remains in the ‘Extreme Risk’ category.
The Positivity Rate, the measure of how many coronavirus tests return positive, has dropped to 13.57%. A value of 5% or less indicates that transmission of the virus is more or less under control.
The percentage of beds in general wards occupied by patients suffering from COVID-19 is 8.06% whilst the percentage of beds in ICU wards occupied by COVID-19 patients is 20.79%.
Cataluña still leads the way in hospitalizations, with almost 2,400 people currently in hospital due to COVID-19. Just under 44% of total ICU capacity in the autonomous region is occupied by patients suffering from extreme cases.
In the Comunidad Valenciana, 629 people are currently hospitalized, according to the latest CCAES report, with just under 15% of ICU ward capacity occupied by those suffering from the extreme effects of COVID-19.
The country has suffered 314 deaths in the past seven days, a rise of 58% when compared to two weeks ago, taking the national total to 82,407 since the pandemic began.
Across Spain, the rise of infections continues to slow and 16 of the 19 autonomous regions have reported IA rates lower than they were two weeks ago. Both the autonomous cities of Ceuta and Melilla are seeing big rises, particularly the latter, where positive cases have increased by 142% in the past two weeks.
The Balearic Islands still lead the way with a 14-day IA rate of 648.89, although it has dropped some 32% in two weeks.
The Comunidad Valenciana’s rate, currently 406.40, has dropped by over 30% in the past two weeks and it now has the second lowest rate in mainland Spain behind Asturias, where the rate has more than halved in the past fortnight to 283.38.

Vaccination (12.08.21)
Spain has administered 60,449,774 doses of vaccine, which is 94.7% of those which it has already received (63,816,892). A total of 29,221,276 people have completed the recommended course, which is 69.4% of the total of the population which is to be vaccinated (42,119,827) or 61.6% of the total population of Spain.
According to the latest data provided by the health authorities, 93.2% of people aged 40 and over in Spain have received at least one dose, with 90.0% having completed the recommended course.
The Comunidad Valenciana has administered 6,271,436 doses of vaccine, which is 95.8% of the total which it has received (6,546,180). A total of 3,029,731 people have completed the recommended course, which 67.5% of the population which is to be vaccinated (4,488,459) or 59.9% of the total population of the Comunidad Valenciana.
According to the latest data provided by the health authorities, 93.8% of people aged 40 and over in the Comunidad Valenciana have received at least one dose, with 91.4% having completed the recommended course.
The newspaper El Pais has reported that the first Spanish COVID-19 vaccine has been approved for human clinical trials by the Spanish Medicive and Health Products Agency (AEMPS). The PHH-1V vaccine is being developed from Spanish pharmaceutical company Hipra, which expects to be able to deliver 400 million doses in 2022.
