Xàbia

The total number of positive coronavirus cases detected by PCR test in Xàbia has climbed to 1,783, according to the latest update from the regional health ministry, a rise of 74 since the last update on Tuesday 20th July.

The municipality’s 14-day IA rate, a measure of the speed at which the virus moves through the population, has climbed to 639.92 cases per 100,000 inhabitants and the town remains in the ‘Extreme Risk’ alert level.

There have been no new deaths in Xàbia since late March and the number remains at 12.

Xàbia Council has raised concerns with the Generalitat Valenciana over the regional government’s decision not to include Xàbia in its latest extension of measures that include the imposition of a night curfew on many surrounding municipalities from Sunday, arguing that young people from those towns will simply flock to Xàbia for illegal private parties, botellones and other anti-social behaviour, putting an enormous strain on an already over-stretched police force.

Marina Alta

There have been 1,274 new positive cases detected by PCR test in the Marina Alta in the past 14 days and the region’s 14-day IA rate has climbed to to 746.67 cases per 100,000 inhabitants and it remains in the ‘Extreme Risk’ alert level.

There have been no new deaths since the last update and the region’s toll remains 203.

The newspaper El Pais has reported that the Spanish Government has hit its fourth target for the national vaccination strategy by reaching the end of the fourth week of July with 25 million people fully vaccinated against the disease. Unlike other large European countries such as France, Germany and Italy where the vaccination campaigns are slowing down, Spain’s effort is still progressing at a “stable or rising pace” which has been attributed to less hesitancy to the vaccine in Spain and a major willingness among the population to get vaccinated.
