Xàbia not among municipalities that will see night curfew restored from Sunday

The Generalitat Valenciana has requested authorization from the region’s Superior Court of Justice (TSJCV) to expend the number of municipalities within the Comunidad Valenciana in which a night curfew will be enforced. At the moment, a limit on movement at night has been applied in 32 towns until next Sunday, but the rapid increase in infections has forced the regional government to seek further measures to halt the spread.

Thus, it is seeking to impose a night curfew in 44 more localities in the region, including six towns in the Marina Alta region: Calp, Dénia, Teulada-Moraira, Gata de Gorgos, Ondara and Pego. Neither Xàbia nor Poble Nou de Benitatxell appear on the list published by Alicante Plaza, despite both municipalities having greater incidence rates than Dénia, Pego and Ondara.

The 14-day IA rates for the six municipalities which, subject to court endorsement, will see a night curfew restored between 1.00am and 6.00am are:

Calp: 1363.29 cases per 100,000 inhabitants
Gata de Gorgos: 968
Teulada Moraira: 638
Dénia: 424
Pego: 365.14
Ondara: 310

By comparison, Xàbia’s incidence rate is 478, Poble Nou de Benitatxell 494, and Pedreguer 152.

All these municipalities are at extreme risk according to the latest statistics provided by the regional health ministry on Tuesday.

If the TSJCV endorses the expansion of the night curfew in the region, it will come into force from Sunday 25th July and will remain in place until Monday 16th August, such is the concern that the regional government has about the rapid increase in infections.

On Thursday, the regional interdepartmental board will meet, during which the list of municipalities in which the night curfew will apply will be confirmed as well as any modified or additional measures that the regional government intends to apply to face the spread of COVID-19 across the Comunidad Valenciana.
