VIRUS UPDATE: Positive cases continue to rise across the region
Mayor José Chulvi has called for more respect for the great economic and social sacrifice made in recent months to reduce the infection rate.

Xàbia
The total number of positive coronavirus cases detected by PCR test in Xàbia has climbed to 1,665, according to the latest update from the regional health ministry, a rise of 37 since the last update on Tuesday 13th July.
The municipality’s 14-day IA rate, a measure of the speed at which the virus moves through the population, has climbed to to 442.60 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, the highest since early February, and the town remains in the ‘Extreme Risk’ alert level.
There have been no new deaths in Xàbia since late March and the number remains at 12.
In response to the soaring figures in the municipality, Xàbia mayor José Chulvi has once again called on both resident and visitors to comply with the measures imposed to prevent the spread of the virus. “Having police in the streets to shutdown the dozens of street parties, crowds and private parties is not a solution. Nor should we accept that some people consider that it is their right to carry out their business without complying with the rules, or those who think that health and safety measures are no longer necessary or those who excuse themselves because they are on holiday, thinking that it does not matter if they act a little irresponsibly. We all know the effort we have made in recent months to reduce the incidence of the virus to minimal rates. This was with great economic and social sacrifice, an effort that deserves to be respected and reciprocated”.
Marina Alta
There have been 733 new positive cases detected in the Marina Alta in the past 14 days and the region’s 14-day IA rate has climbed to to 429.60 cases per 100,000 inhabitants and it remains in the ‘Extreme Risk’ alert level.
There have been no new deaths since the last update and the region’s toll remains 203.
The total number of positive cases since the pandemic began is now 11,060 since the last update on Tuesday 13th July, a rise of 292.

The rest of the municipalities in the Marina Alta are at the NEW NORMAL level, mainly inland rural communities which have not recorded a single case in the past 14 days.
Spain
Spain’s 14-day IA rate is 500.75 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, which is almost four times higher than two weeks ago and the highest it has been since the first half of February this year. The country remains in the ‘Extreme Risk’ category.
The Positivity Rate, the measure of how many coronavirus tests return positive, has risen to 13.70%, more than double two weeks ago. A value of 5% or less indicates that transmission of the virus is more or less under control.
Hospitalizations across the country have doubled in two weeks and, although it is reported that the pressure of the healthcare system is still much lower that it was during the previous waves, some hospital procedures are being re-scheduled as a result.
The percentage of beds in general wards occupied by patients suffering from COVID-19 is 3.91% whilst the percentage of beds in ICU wards occupied by COVID-19 patients has risen to 9.18%.
It is the primary healthcare system that is bearing the brunt of this fifth wave, due to the fact that the vast majority of the infections are being detected in young people who usually experience mild symptoms or are symptomatic, and therefore don’t require hospitalization. The newspaper El País has reported the concerns of a nurse who has said that the primary healthcare system is in a “very precarious situation”.
Across Spain, all but one of the 19 autonomous communities and cities have seen positives cases rise over the past two weeks; the Baleares is the exception.

Vaccination (14.07.21)
Spain has administered 49,585,197 doses of vaccine, which is 92.0% of those which it has already received. A total of 22,949,155 people have completed the recommended course, which is 54.5% of the total of the population which is to be vaccinated (40,129,822).
According to the latest data provided by the health authorities, 90.6% of people aged 40 and over in Spain have received at least one dose, with 78.4% having completed the recommended course.
The Comunidad Valenciana has administered 5,087,099 doses of vaccine, which is 92.0% of the total which it has received. A total of 2,910,506 people have completed the recommended course, which 52.1% of the population which is to be vaccinated (4,289,305).
According to the latest data provided by the health authorities, 91.1% of people aged 40 and over in the Comunidad Valenciana have received at least one dose, with 76.3% having completed the recommended course.
