The Arenal zone could finally be covered a dedicated health clinic open all year round after a motion for a credit modification was approved by the tripartite PP·CPJ·VOX as the November plenary session of the local council this week.

The local government coalition voted in favour of a credit modification of 7.6 million EUR, which includes an amount of 400,000 EUR which will be put aside for the purchase of a suitable premises in the Arenal zone which would be used as a consultation room until permission is granted by the regional government to build a health centre to serve the community all year round, rather than just the summer season and Easter period.

Councillors from the PSPV-PSOE and Compromís abstained from the credit modification vote with socialist spokesperson and former mayor José Chulvi asking for more details on efforts to secure a suitable outpatient clinic in the Arenal on the part of the Generalitat Valenciana. Councillor Fátima Jarjor (Health) responded that the budget secured from the credit modification seeks to solve the existing problems in the Arenal zone, where health staff face difficulties in attending to patients in optimal conditions and that, if the implementation of a health clinic is successful, the premises would also be used for other public services since the area lacks municipal offices.

In the same session, the motion to address the needs of the local force in Xàbia was approved with votes in favour from the tripartite PP·CPJ·VOX and the PSPV-PSOE – Compromís abstained – to amend the RPT, a technical mechanism through which Public Administrations design their personnel structure to adapt to the needs of the municipality.

The local police force has campaigned long and hard for the amendment through noisy protests outside the town hall during council meetings, calling for improvement in salaries and conditions as well as in manpower in order for the local security force to function correctly.
