Mayoress Rosa Cardona joined with the councilor for Education and Culture, Mavi Pérez (CPJ), and the councilor for Services, Juanjo García (PP), to enjoy the symbolic lighting of the sustainable eco tree of Xàbia last Friday evening, an initiative promoted by the company responsible for waste collection TETMA and the local council to raise awareness about the presence of single-use plastics in everyday life.

The event was held in the Placeta del Convent and was attended by the boys and girls who have worked to shape the tree with 4,000 plastic bottles over the last month, together with the team of Environmental Educators from TETMA.

The Councilor for Education, Mavi Pérez, stressed that in recycling “we all have to be aware” and thanked the involvement of families and schools in shaping it. Pérez added that every day we all “generate a lot of waste and recycling is a way to leave future generations a better planet.”

For her part, the mayoress, Rosa Cardona, highlighted the work carried out by all the schools and schoolchildren “who have made it possible to transform some bottles into this tree that the entire town can see.” Cardona urged everyone present, young and old, “to become aware of the importance of recycling.”

The tree will remain in the Placeta del Convent until the end of Christmas.
