170 PARTICIPANTS SIGN UP FOR FIRST CHARITY OPEN WATER SWIM

The event will take place on Saturday 9th December from Playa de la Grava.

A total of 170 swimmers have registered to participate in the inaugural edition of the Charity Open Water Swim Xàbia which will be held on Saturday 9th December between Playa de la Grava and Cala Blanca.

The organisers, headed by seasoned open water swimmer José Ramón García, presented the details of this special event at the town hall alongside sports councillor Toni Molina and explained that the proceeds from the swim will be donated to Asociación Contra el Cáncer de Jávea.

The swim will have two disciplines: a 3.2 kilometre category between Playa de la Grava and the Arenal, and a 10 kilometre category from Playa de la Grava to Cala Blanca. The organisers added that it is expected that the water temperature will be around 16°c, so a thermal swimsuit would be required. There will be a safety team of 20 boats which will support all swimmers during the event whilst Playa de la Grava will host a refreshment point and the awards ceremony at the end.

Registration remains open until Friday 8th December and can be made through the crono4sports website and there is an option for those who don’t want to swim (or cannot) but still want to donate 10 EUR to the cause, known as “Dorsal 0”.

The president of the charity, Carman Hernández, thanked the organisers for considering them as beneficiaries of this charity event, whilst the sports councillor added that “every stroke and effort” of the participants “will contribute to improving the lives of those affected by cancer”.
