A total of 13 restaurants and students from CEIP Port de Xàbia will be participating in the 10th edition of LA MAR DE TAPAS gastronomic festival organised by the Duanes de la Mar-Xàbia Port Business Association for the weekend of 3rd to 5th November.

Details of the festival were revealed by Cande Ros, president of the Business Association, councillor Juanlu Cardona, responsible for Economic Dynamization, and Isabel Moreno, director of the primary school in the port zone. The main novelty of this year’s edition is the inclusion of the school which will participate with a poster prepared by its students as part of the CIUNNOVART education innovation project.

Ros explained that the event dedicated to seafood tapas has been moved to the first weekend of November to try and encourage people to come down and spend some time in the port zone during this month.

The councillor added that La Mar de Tapas is a consolidated event that has become an integral part of the annual programme in Xàbia whilst stressing that the times during which the participating bars and restaurants will offer their tapas will be alongside those of local businesses in order to provide an opportunity for gastronomy and commerce to merge together as one single offer to the visitor.

Isabel Moreno, director at CEIP Port de Xàbia, explained that she hopes that the school’s involvement in this tenth edition will become a milestone for the future, adding that the presence of the students during the event is one of the objectives of the CUINNOVART education project that was launched some years ago to integrate the importance of learning about how gastronomy affects the mental and physical health of everyone as well as the importance of local products, the KM0 offering.

She explained that the 5th and 6th year students have prepared a tapas dish – “Tomacat amb espinetes i coca d’oli y timonet” – with the help of their parents and the teachers at the school. Through this initiative, they have been learning about the process of making the dish and students Silvia and Daniel explained that the money that they raise through its sale during the event will go to an NGO.
